Steering Shaft removal for header install?

I have been reading around and on some hooker header LT installs, the steering shaft needs to be removed? Anyone run into that problem? If so, how do you do that?

On the 2 installs I've done on those headers we took the shaft out for more clearance, they slide right in after you remove that

We dropped the steering column inside the car, then took out the 2 bolts holding the the column in the engine bay and it slides right out
