Starting problem!?!?
Starting problem!?!?
I need some help. My car is a 99 SS Camaro, with zero mods and about 50,000 miles. Ever so often I try to start my car and it does nothing but crank over and over and over. Doesnt even try to fire. It seems to happen most often when it is hot, but not always. I get under the hood and jiggle wires around, unplug the coil packs and plug 'em back in and eventually it will fire. The thing is once its running it drives just fine and like it always has. No service engine light or anything. I wanted to know if anyone else has had a problem like this or has any ideas or tips as to what it could be. Any help would be appreciated. HELP! Thanks.
Re: Starting problem!?!?
Try this:
1. Make sure car is off and it's quiet around you.
2. Turn key to ON (NOT START).
3. Listen for fuel pump. It's a noticeable hum that should last for about five seconds, and it should come from behind you.
4. If you don't hear it, climb under the car and check the connection to the pump for power. Unplug the connector and look for corrosion. If there is power and no corrosion, you probably need a new fuel pump. If there is corrosion, clean it off thoroughly -- this should help your problem.
5. If you do hear the noise, then it's something else entirely.

I did the unthinkable and gave it to the dealer to look at. When they find out what it is and tell me what was wrong I'll let you know. It was not a fuel issue, the pump ran and I had pressure at the fuel rails, but thank you for the reply. Never thought I'd take her to the dealer but I could not figure it out and it just seemed to get worse.
