Stall installed,now car runs funny,HELP!
Stall installed,now car runs funny,HELP!
My car is a 1998 Z28 with the A4 (obviously) Anyway,we installed the Yank 3200 stall but now I have some issues:
-The SES light is on.Is this from the stall or something we forgot to plug back in?
-The car will not move until about 2000 RPM's.You have to rev the car up to get it moving. Is this normal or did we screw something up?
-The car "lopes" at idle now.Is that something I have to live with?
Thanks for any help guys!

ok you sound exactly like me when my 3400 went in.....lol
1)the SES came on for me too....when they disconnect your battery your computer has to reset.....when its plugged back in and comes back online with this different converter it may get a little worried and throw a code....mine went away after about 100 miles when everything was re-learned by the comp. check over everything in the engine compartment to make sure you plugged everything back in. if you can't find anything and the SES light doesnt turn off, go and get the car scanned.
2)the car is goin to feel like the tranny is broken when ur not on the gas hard....thats what a converter does. rather than evenly apply torque as the gas goes down...it kinda saves it up till a nice high rpm to release it all at once and send the car screaming out of the hole....bigger stall = worse drivability, more of a "loose feeling"...u'll get used to it....i don't even notice mine anymore except for the fact that if im on ANY incline, the car won't move forward in gear without giving it gas....TRUST ME I KNOW IT FEELS REALLY WEIRD BUT ITS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT
3) r u referring to a "loping" with the car in gear? if so, this is probably normal because my car tends to have a SLIGHT moving idle while holding the brake down in gear....i guess it just slips differently...should be normal....if the idle is moving when the car is not in gear, i would look more into making sure everything is plugged in. Maybe u have a sensor or something that isnt plugged in and is causing the motor to run weird.
hope this info answers your questions.....good luck and enjoy the converter!

Well, thanks for all the help. When I finished up at 4:30am I forgot to plug in electrical connector (DOH)
The car runs great now with 2 exceptions:
-Bounces off the rev limiter (hopefully just low fluid)
-Can't keep my foot out of it!
This is by far the best/most noticable mod I have EVER done. This should be the 1st mod ANY auto car does!

heh heh told ya ud like it...........
just be careful of that rev limiter thing that shoudlnt happen....get it checked out JUST TO BE SAFE.....ya dont want to find out the converter is slipping worse than it should......that being said have fun with it!!!

You might need to raise your shift points. I have heard it's normal for 3600 and up stalls to bounce the rev limiter when they first go on. I'm surprised to hear a 3200 doing that but any verter over 3000 has a chance of causeing the car to need a good tune/shift point adjustment.
Anyone with LS1-edit can do this for you. Or if you have a predator you can do it. Otherwise you may have to buy one of the above or take it to a performance shop to have your car "tweaked" to run smooth on your new converter.
Good Luck
