SS vs SLP
SS vs SLP
As a new honored member to this forum, I beg in advance for your understanding to my ignorance.
I am in the process of buying a Z28 or SS. Live in Louisville, KY.
My question is this:
There is the Z28, then there is the SS. Is there different models of the SS?
What does SLP mean/include?
Modell year I am looking for is 98-02. Should be a 6 speed. Any suggestions on what else, and what to look for when that shining beauty has been located?
Sincerely,
Stein

Welcome hansa320,
As demonspeed mentioned your better off searching the archives for detailed threads on to the differences between the Z28 and SS. I'll take a quick stab at the major points (stats for 2002).
Z28 5.7L LS1 V-8, 310HP@5200RPM 340ft-lbs@4000RPM
STD Features:4-speed Automatic Trans.(2.73 std., 3.23 optional), or 6-speed Manual (3.42 std., Hurst short-throw optional), 16"x8" Aluminum wheels w/ Eagle RS-As, Zexel-Torsen LSD, Performance Ride and Handling Package
SS(Z28) 5.7L LS1 V-8, 325HP@5200RPM 350ft-lbs@4000RPM
STD Features:Forced air-induction hood and high rear spoiler, 4-speed Automatic Trans.(3.23 std.), or 6-speed Manual (3.42 std., Hurst short-throw optional), 17"x9" Aluminum wheels w/ Eagle F1s, Zexel-Torsen LSD, High Performance Ride and Handling Package (bigger front sway-bar), Low-restriction exhaust with dual outlets
SLP options for SS (335HP or 345HP)
Bilstein or 1LE Suspension, Auburn LSD, BFG G-Force KDs, Chrome ZR1 or 10-spoke wheels, Dual-Dual Performance exhaust or Center Mounted Performance exhaust (+10HP), Blackwing LID (+10HP)
I think i covered most of the stuff. The '01-'02 cars are rated the same (SLP LID option not available for '01). '98-'00 cars are rated slightly lower. The '98-'00 cars came with a bigger cam but did not come with the LS6 intake manifold. The exhaust manifolds for the '01-'02 cars were also redesigned. Hope the info helps.

Spending 4.5 hrs in the car each time, Just after a long day sitting
at work? It needs to be very comfortable. I am also considering tradin up on my 560 SEC. It has now 235K miles, and is due for replacement.
Comfort is actually more important than tire smoking power.
A Cavalier??? I am 6'4", 230 lbs, would almost be funny to see....
Thanks for the coment!!
