Thats why i bought a Z, rims had to go, exhaust, would be gone, and later i plan on adding better suspension. Think the ss just have different spring rates to ease the ride a little more. So i would have pretty much bought a 4,000 dollar hood and spoiler. So since i was quoted 645 a month for the Z i said exnay on the SS.
you wont be able to buy that hood, spoiler, exhaust, suspension, and 17" rims and paint for the hood/spoiler, and power steering cooler for much less than $4,000. you might can do it with aftermarket hood and spoiler with painted zr1 wheels... but the aftermarket hoods/spoilers wont be from gm, and they probably wont fit as well. the ss suspension is not SOFTER, it is actually more harsh, to make it handle better.
but, if you were going to take all the ss stuff off of the ss, then your right, there is no point in buying it if all your going to leave on there is the hood and spoiler.
regardless of what alot of people say about the ss package, its not a bad deal. especially when the ss will hold its value a whole lot better than a z28. alot of the guys saying they would rather have a z28 over an ss say it because they drive a z28.

I drive a Z28 and I say I would rather have a Z28, but its not cause I drive one. I made the choice before buying the car. Okay so the SS has a stiffer suspension. Yeay I get to feel the bumps even more, my previous had an incredibly soft suspension so I didnt feel any bumps. I am still having a hard time adjusting to riding bumps in my Z. Oh ok so the SS can corner a little better bc of the suspension. Gee like I need to take a turn at 85 in city traffic that I could only make at about 75 in a Z. Like I really need to pay an extra 3500 to make a ridiculous turn. Lets see oh the ram air hood, yes got one of those and made it functional for under $600. Spoiler, I really dont like the SS spoiler. Insurance can really add up to as it would cost me an additional $185 every six months for the SS over the Z. (Im 17) The exhuast on the SS is not neccessarily any better than the one on the Z. The real difference in power comes from ram air thats it. For only 15 hp that I could get out of a ram air hood for under 600. So as you can see I did my research and picked the car I wanted. I had my mind set on a Z and actually would have been dissapointed if I had gotten an SS.
Note: The ram air doesnt kick in on the SS till about 60 mph so essentially the SS is slower 0-60 since its heavier with wheels, spoiler, side moldings, etc.

LOL, the things people say. Yes you are so right I would give up my SS in a second for a Z28 damn GM for charging me more for an SS when the Z28 is really the better car. I think I will sell my SS for a Z28 better yet why don't I go all out and get my V6 Camaro back.

I never said the Z28 was a better car. In fact I said several times the SS was better. I just stated that it wasnt worth the extra 3500. I dont need to turn at 80 mph or pay the extra insurance, if I can avoid it and have a car thats practically just as good.

Ok I am not sure what all the fuss is about

I just recently sold my Z28 for a new 2002 SS. There was nothing wrong with my car.. if fact I love my car and I want her back. But I was checking around for prices and for me to up grade my car to be the way I wanted it to be was stupid. So I went out and I bought a SS. I got low financing and I got all the stuff I wanted like new rims, tires, hood, spoiler etc ets. I also have a ton of mods from SLP. Like 7000 grand worth!! But can anyone of you guys tell me this! Will Jegs or SLP or any company give you 0.9% financing on your hood or spolier?? I didn't think so. To me I don't care what you people will call my car, a SS or just a Z28. Cuz I bought what was more reasonable to me. So if I happen to have SS bages on the side of my car so be it. All i care about is keeping the legend alive and powerful!! Just my .02 cents

OK, now I'm a little confused. I have the WU8 code on drivers door, but nothing that indicates my SS was ever a guest at SLP. It was my understanding that there is a whole array of mods SLP does, and unless you ordered yours through the dealer, it was a crap shoot as to what they put on it (exhaust, rims, airbox lid, etc).

I bought my 02 used, so I don't have the benefit of a sticker to fall back on. It was manufactured in Canada, but there isn't any SLP info on either door or door pillar, nor anything that refers to a build number.

Is there a way to check this out via my VIN#?
You won't have a seperate SLP door sticker unless the car had optional SLP content (Bilstein suspension, 345hp package, that funny-looking dual center-mount exhaust, etc.) added to it. If it just has the base SS content (WU8) you'll only have the GM door sticker.

As for the Z28 vs. SS argument, I think it's personal preference. If you want to spend the extra money on the appearance items, go for it. I do get tired of SS owners assuming that I had to "settle" for the Z28. Not quite, just IMHO it wasn't worth 4K (I couldn't find a cloth interior SS).

How can you tell a Camaro is an SS and not a regular Z28? Easy, by the VIN. The VIN can be taken to any dealership for a print out of the RPO codes. Once the RPO codes are printed out, you can easily verify that the car in question is or is not an SS. Just look for the RPO code WU8, if it is missing ... then the car is a regular Z28 and not an SS. Simple, eh?

How many mods did you have to do to cut that 12.801? I keep hearing rumors of factory freeks that have done that but I've yet to meet one.

Who you calling funny? That exhaust has intimidated countless Rustangs, a Z3, an M3, and a Carrera (in all fairness the Carrera owner looked to barely have a pulse). I think that's the best looking part of the SS. It and the hood mean all business. Besides it leaves an unforgetable imppression on the cars you beat .

Hee hee Just personal preference. I will say that the factory two-outlet looks a heck of a lot better than the quad outlet SLP performance parts sells. Like everything else with the SS, if you're happy, that's all that matters. I just happen to like my plain hood and 2OTL exhaust. The stock spoiler could use a little something to set it off but oh well. And let's not go into those Z28 wheels... they're not that ugly but it takes forever to clean the brake dust out of every little nook and cranny on those silly things. I'm just trying to burn through the GS-C's so I have an excuse to buy some ZR1 rims

I agree. My SS is a base GM SS, but I just had to add the SLP CME.
