SS ram air hood

I want a functional ram air hood and the only one that looks good in my eye is the stock slp ram air hood. So that is what I have been looking for. But I just thought of a question. Do the ss ram air camaros have a different air box then the z28's? How does the air flow into the engine? Thanks.

I do not have a SS I have a Z28 but the SS hood(OEM) only works if you buy the air lid that sits up near the industion area it runs around 150 and up I believe but the SS boys should answer this question.

All you need is the hood and the little molding that directs the air into the box. The air boxes are 100% the same Z28 to SS.

The 98-02 SS hood directs air to the front of the hood.

I have seen intakes for the 96-97 cars that seal to the hood but the intake is in a different spot then 98-02s, those intakes might even be stock on those years of the SS.

The 98-02 SS hood directs air into the air intake but is not sealed shut, making it work as a cold air intake. I don't think there is an intake for the 98-02 that will completly seal the hood to the intake.

The SS and Z28 take their air into the engine identically. The SS hood scoops it in and redirects it into the airbox. No difference between the two air boxes. 96-97 cars have different engines thus a different air induction. 96-97 SS hoods are different than 98-02 SS hoods. It is pretty widely recognized that the 98-02 SS hood doesn't work that well. These cars do better with a bottom feeding ram air/cold air induction system such as the SSRA.

Yep, pretty much non-functional. You need to buy an airbox.

Hmm. I checked out those ram air scoops that draw air from under the front facia, I duno. I like the look of the ss hood, it dresses up the plain front end nicely. Thanks for the replies, glad I don't have to buy some specific intake for it.

The cold air induction kits are much more effective than the hoods. I have a SSRA on my SS. I'm taking in air from the hood and the bottom. I definitely noticed a difference with it.

You might want to consider a Volant. I got mine from T-Byrne on sale for $250.
