Post SS OWNER ALERT-FACTORY DEFECT ON 2001'S

2001 SS owners,

Why there's nothing said about this is beyond me but there was a batch of 2001' SS's built with DEFECTIVE ROOF PANELS-BAD-RESIN-BAD-PAINT. My dealer has agreed to put on a new roof panel on my SS. Re-painting will NOT WORK! Your dealer must order a new rood panel from GM. Some goof-off on the Camaro assembly line put on some bad resin. Check your roof panel if you own a 2001 SS and if you see a bad orange peel paint job or if you can see the resin under the paint bubble up under direct hot sunlight then your part of that group.

My question is I DON'T WANT ANY SCREW-UPS WITH MY DEALER WHEN CUTTING OFF MY BAD ROOF PANEL AND PUTTING THE CORRECT ONE ONE,,,,, so,,,,,,

I want to take pics of my SS before, during and after the procedure. I am going to ask my dealer if there's a problem with this and I am gonna request I be there in person to watch them hack off the bad roof panel. I want to write up a mini-agreement that specifically tells where there is already scratches on my SS or any problems before they begin.

Am I asking to much or am I being "complicated"?

If your SS is like this please contact me at RLYC@bellsouth.net

No, there is no other way. The resin attached to the panel is bad. Even the base under the panel is bad too. Re-painting has been tried but doesn't work. The entire panel must be replaced. If you re-paint it, the same thing will happen again. The resin will leak thru due to some kind of chemical reaction from the sun's heat.

Makes me very angry why GM has not had a press release about this!!!!

YES YES YES!!! Absolutely document EVERY move they make and be on the scene when they do this if at all possible. I own a 2001 and I had some problems with the dealership about a year ago now, they finally admitted they damaged my car with their inept service dept. but since it's my word against theirs as to the extent of the damage, I still have not had satisfactory repair results. I am still angry about the stupid things they did to my car, it will never be the same, I hear the rattles and squeeks every time I drive it now and it takes some of the joy out of driving it. So don't hesitate, by all means do not trust them (no bitterness here), and watch them like the proverbial hawk! Good luck, hope I don't end up with the same problem you have. If I do, I surely won't take it to the idiot dealership I got it from. . .
