ss hood and ram air
ss hood and ram air
i have a 98 z28 and i want to get an aftermarket ss hood...how do i get a ram air that will work with that hood, and is that one better than the super sucker ram air, and better yet can i get both? thanks again guys.
Re: ss hood and ram air
most aftermarket LS-1 hoods will work with the stock airbox, they just work in different ways. the SS hood redirects it and is basically useless before 60+mph due to the way it loops around, the ultra Z hood and others like it will flow straight into the airbox. YOu can use the SSRA with ram air hoods, it will only help more.
Re: ss hood and ram air
I have the Mecham hood on my 01Z with a viligante airbox system
do a search on google for mecham performance then look at the Z29R...the red one on teh top of the page is the same setup as mine including the spoiler

Re: ss hood and ram air
the mecham hood any good? Heard they used to have big consistency issues, as well as some fitment issues. I personally like my stock hood, but would like to shed a little weight once the 427 goes in.
Re: ss hood and ram air
I have an aftermarket SS hood (Suncoast) and wouldn't even bother with the "ram-air". I kept my FTRA as it has proven itself and is a much more direct flow for the air....
Re: ss hood and ram air
I love the Mecham hood. It aligns and fits perfectly. Already said that the SS hood is basically not functional under 60 mph...with the Mecham hood the only air the intake sucks is through the ram air system. It also has an exit vent that helps get rid of all that hot air. I like it it personally, the price is a little steep($960) but I think it is the best hood for looks and performance IMHO>
