Spark plugs & wires

well, on my new Bird, (02) her idle is a bit choppy, so i figure the dreaded spark plugs need to be done... sooo how bad is it really, the drivers side looks okay, but the passenger side i did mine on the lt1, and it took me a long as time, i can do it quite proficently now, but i'm wondering how easy is it, and if anyone can compare it to an lt1, someone might want to tell me what i'm in for.

(from thunderracing)50-TR55-IX NGK TR55-IX Iridium Spark Plugs, Stock heat range, gapped at .050
how are those?
and some taylor 8mm wires that were correctly sized for the aplication, my taylor wires i did for the lt1 i custom fitted them and i think i did a bad job

Re: Spark plugs & wires

Just buy some copper plugs. Iridium just lasts longer, but so does platinum. Neither are as good of a conductor as copper though. A general rule of thumb, if you're spending more than $2.50 /plug, you need to get some KY with the deal.

If your stock wires are in good shape, leave them on. Unless you're just wanting to change color.

Okay, on my friends LS1 Camaro, we are using Taylor red wires with stock Delco platinum plugs. I'm trying to convince him to start using NGKs for the simple fact that he just installed a nitrous system and he is starting to spray alot. The plugs aren't too bad, just use some tool combos. such as a shortened spark plug socket, adjustable ratchets, and stubby open end wrenches, and some will be easier to get from the bottom then the top. As for the wires, the LS1 setup is so much easier then the LT-1 setup so I think you should be okay there. The NGK plugs are definitely a good way to go. They are cheap and get very positive feedback on these boards. I use them on my LT-1 and have had no problems.

Re: Spark plugs & wires

My car is pewter metallic and I used blue taylor spiro pro's. I should've went black though.. It doesn't look too bad.

Anywho, I just threw some plugs on about 3 weeks ago and it took me about 3 hours (including a 1 hour break). It's too easy if you follow the instructions on www.installuniversity.com. Oh yea, I use NGK TR55's--GREAT plug.
