Re: Spark Plugs

I run NGK's which have worked just great for me, as for #8 you can do alot of research on here for a few different methods, i used a very small ratchet and my little brothers hand

Re: Spark Plugs

NGK TR55's (and if your pockets are deep and/or you don't mind spending a few extra $$$, then get the TR55 Iridium IX's!).

#8 was surprisingly EASY! Getting to the PLUG was NO PROBLEM with my LEFT ARM. You can't see a damn thing though! I had to do everything by "feel". Getting to the plug wires at the top (where they connect to the coils) was a P.I.T.A. on #6 and #8 though .

However, simply changing #8 plug wasn't a problem for me .

Re: Spark Plugs

NGK TR-55s I'm running them on my LT1, my friend has them on his LS1, they are a very good plug for an affordable price. As for changing plugs, it can be a real daunting task. You just have to have some different tool combos and as mentioned above, go by feel as its hard to see what you are doing in some spots. Or the next best option, invest in some long tube headers and plug access will improve greatly.

Re: Spark Plugs

I got the NGK TR55GP , does that matter, the GP I mean, or am I good as long as they're TR55's?

I changed mine about two weeks ago and I jacked the car up high enough so that I had room to move around and see what I was doing and actually #8 was a piece of cake to change.I not sure if it is even possible to change that plug from the top, I know I as sure as hell can't.When you change your plugs make sure the engine is cold and use a little anti-seize on the threads and don't over tighten them as the heads are aluminum and will strip alot easier than steel.

Re: Spark Plugs

I use NGK TR6s at .038 gap for the nitrous. With my headers, I've found that it is just easier to put the car on ramps and get #8 from underneath...

In what applications are the iridums worth it? Looks like they run aout $28 per 4 plugs. Are they only beneficial in high HP applications or would a stock car see any benefit from them?

I'm going to be doing plugs and wires soon, but the car is stock. Of course if there is a benefit I'd look into getting them.

Re: Spark Plugs

I dont see iridium plugs being worthwhile in our cars.
In cars like my girls (2000 MR2 Spyder) they came stock with Iridium plugs so its what we will use to replace them with when that time comes..

In my 2002, I plan on doing the plugs within the next month or so.. I will most likely go with my personal favorite plug, the Bosch Plat single.. It hasnt failed me in any of my cars and was fine in my 1995 LT1..
