so my friend hit a 13.55 today...

damn, the LS1 is a monster. after hovering around the 13.8-14.2 range, he busted out and lost to me while i was driving my friends 98 cobra. but crap, i'd be happy to bust out with that time. i'm hella pushing this guy to break into the 12s now, but what direction should he go? his current mods are ls1 motorsports lid, k&n, slp ram air, flowmaster catback and a cutout on the i-pipe(?). that thing sounds mean with the cutout.

he's thinking bout getting JBA headers and an off road y pipe as his next mods. i say he gets a torque converter, shift kit, tranny cooler, 4.11s and some nitto dr's or mickey et streets. u guys think that should put him in the 12s? think it can be done for around $8-1000? oh yes...

on a side note-what are some dyno #s or et's u guys are pushing on street legal, RELIABLE, daily drivers?

TIA for any input...

converter and gears and some sticky tires should definatly put the car into the 12's...

i'd look into either long tubes, or maybe some MAC midlenths. the macs come w/ an offroad pipe and there are several places that offer good ypipes for longtubes

No offense, but I'd think you could do much better than 13.55 with those mods...............even with the A4.

Angry

The LS1 is a animal.Mine has 200 dollars in to it and ran 13.0.Cobras will run 13.40 with a good driver and feathering the clutch. But the mph is 103 if its stays in 6500rpm range. Thats why I bought the Z 3500 the car pulls hard up to 6000 shift. The only down side is torque management.

13.55 is hardly par for stock, nothing to get excited about.

What altitude are you racing at?

A 98 cobra should not beat a modded LS1 car, those things are unimpressively slow for the price.

i agree...i think he could probably squeeze out a few more 1/10s...he says he wasn't even power braking or heating the tires up at all.

Are you guys at a relatively high elevation?

What were your buddy's 60' and trap speed?

13.55 is nothing that really turns heads, but with all theose mods, you'll be lookin at something around 12.5-12.8

I'm trying to figure out how to a put a postive spin on it. But quiet frankly 13.55 with his mods, is just a little sub par at Sears Point ... he should be able to do that stock ... I would have to surmise he is relatively new and is still geting the hang of drag racing ...

bingo slick...it was only his second time at the track and hes still kinda new to the street scene.

i've gotta give it to him though, he went from a 14.2-13.9-13.8-13.7, and finally a 13.5. pretty good for improving in 2 outings.

i see ur in sac...how do u like sac raceway compared to sears? IMO sac is just a hair more slippery than sears and more down to business. sears is nice but alot of flash.

This time of the year Sears has a big advantage ... case in point, the D/A at Sears Wedneday was in the neighborhood of 800 feet, while Sac was closer to 3000 feet ...

Thats good for 2 to 3 tenths, not including the fact that on Wednesdays Sac does zero prep ... other than cleaning the track ... though I doubt Sears does either. At close to $1000 a pop for VHT most tracks don't prep on $15 street nights ...

But come winter Sac has the advantage with drier weather and going to negative D/As ...
