It snowed.....now i got SES light
I was driving home from school and right after that to work. On my way home from school it was snowing. My car was slipping everywhere, more than i expected. Anyway, i had trouble driving home but it was fine. Later on when i was goin to work my SES light came on.
My guesses are either a spark plug wire is off, an 02 sensor went bad.......otherwise i have no idea, except for water maybe gettin into some electrical stuff or water gettin into the engine.
When i was driving goin like 1 MPH, i had the heat on full and the rear defroster on, and i noticed that the lights got dim for a lil bit until i turned off the heat and defroster and it went back and the battery gauge went back to regular. The service engine soon light didn't come on till i was on my second trip though so i think i was just draining my battery when they dimmed out.

Re: It snowed.....now i got SES light
Don't even try to guess. It's counterproductive. Could be anything. Get the computer scanned and find out exactly what set off the light. Then come and ask for info on how to fix it.
Re: It snowed.....now i got SES light
Have you done the TB bypass mod, I'm pretty sure thats something you shouldn't do in cold weather.
Since its an '02, I'm guessing your car is probably under warranty. Take it in to the dealership if it still is, no worries.

Re: It snowed.....now i got SES light
Probably just that stupid code that always sets for "Catalyst System Inefficient".....I've had that twice on my car now
. I remember reading a thread here awhile back too, saying it's pretty common (I think the code is "420" or something like that?
). I'm pretty sure it corresponds to the left bank.

Re: It snowed.....now i got SES light
I'm off warranty since last month. I'm gonna go check it out on monday. I don't think its anything serious though. It runs fine. I'll post up the code as soon as i get it. Probably not gonna drive it much if even at all till then...unless i gotta take it to school on monday.
Re: It snowed.....now i got SES light
I got some good news that brings up another question. Today i took my car to work and was gonna go check out what code was goin off afterwards. On the way the SES light went off. I wish it coulda stayed on for a lil bit longer so at least i know what was wrong. Somebody told me that they can still check what code was set off.
Re: It snowed.....now i got SES light
Depends what kind of scan tool they use to check with. The code will be stored in history, but not all scan tools can look at the history. I would have to look it up, but there is a limit to how long it is stored in history. Something like 50 starts, or some number like that, and it goes away.

Try running a few tankfulls with Techtron additive first before spending money chasing Emissions Replacements.
My mechanic suggested I do that when I had the same problem as you, and it cured my problem, plus gave me back alot of power I hadn't realized I was missing.
