Small Block Crate Engine

Guys:

Is it possible to fit a 85(hot cam) Small Block engine in there?
What about a 502 HO Big Block

Where are you trying to put it? In a 4th gen?

If so, then yes, both could be made to fit with enough fabrication. I really don't think it'd be worth it though.

well, I was looking in a hot rod magazine when iI stumbled upon these engine blocks for sale. They said 430/450 horses for 5k i'm like...i'd get it. What I wanted to know was whether or not there would be more money involved in doing other things. I didn't know if there was or not cause I was assuming at 5k, it would be the whole engine?

And whats a 4th gen or 3rd gen or w/e?

For that $$$ get a stroker kit for the LS1 you already have. No fabrication involved and everything looks stock, except the timeslips.

stroker kit? how much do those run for? and for that money would I get the same performance out of the stroker kit that I would the engine?

stikshift: It's the whole engine.

Thumbs down

Don't do it, those older engines are not as good as the LS1s (in regards to a starting point for performance). Plus it would be a headache to make it work right. If you want to spend $5000, get a blower or a heads and cam kit (stage II) installed. Those two will put you at 400 rwhp (or ~450-470 at the crank). More than those packages in "Hot Rod", which would put down to the rear wheels like ~370-~390 plus the extra crap to make it work.

I agree with the others. Do a heads & cam swap for a lot less than $5000, and without the headache. For the same amount of money or less, you could have just as much, or more power from your LS1.

The only "swap" I'd consider (along the lines of what you're suggesting) would be the 502 big-block, but even still, I think it would be a huge pain in the asphalt to convert everything, but at least the outcome would be worth it. However, I think I'd still stick with the factory base (ie: LS1/LS6 small block) and put $5000 into it if that's what you want to spend. IMO, you'd get way more for your money.

Check the GP section. There's usually one going on, just finished or trying to get started.
