My car just hit 74,000 miles the other day and ive heard the the oil pumps on LS1s tend to go out after awhile and instead of waiting untill that happens and taking the chance of damaging something should I just change my oil pump now? Which of the 2 are a better choice to get the SLP oip pump or LS6?

The LS6 is fine for a car that isn't internally modified.

For internally modified cars (cam, heads/cam, stroker motor) you'd want a ported pump.
