Re: SLP FloPack all what it says?

I just order the Whisper lid and the fast tracks ram air kit from thunderracing.com. The tech guy I talked to said that they have a dyno there at their shop and said that they have seen the lids them selves on bone stock ls1's pick up from 12 to 15 rwhp. He said that the fast track ram air kit they have seen the ls1's pick up 8 to 10 rwhp. So ill let yall know how mine feels after i bolt it on.

Re: SLP FloPack all what it says?

do you mean the "fast toys ramair"?

cause that is just like the SLP ramair, which is still inferior to the SSRA

oh well...you'll like the lid

lol unless they have a rolling GPS dyno, you won't see any HP on the dyno from a cold air induction, You have to be moving to see those gains. good for a 1/10 or 2 of a second, and maybe a couple MPH up top.

13.89@102 stock 01 z. with a flow pac and a loud mouth 13.28@106.3 . it looks like 6 tenths for a little over 500 bucks, that i can feel! btw 13.8 run was in the fall, good air(cool day very dry) and the 13.2 was 80 degrees at 70%humidity.

and why would that be? the opening on the dirty side of the filter is a good deal larger than stock with cai. that is gonna account for something. after doing the fra and lid mod, i noticed a definate sotp improvement. one day for shiz and giggles i put the stock lid back on the car. and you know what? no difference as far as the butt-dyno goes. ymmv.

Chalk that one up to the lid and loudmouth. I'd also say maybe you've learned how to drive your car better.

The SSRA rules all other cold air kits.

i think what he means is you won't see a difference between the SSRA and the flowpack associated CAI because on a dyno you are not taking advantage of the ram air scoop

somebody on here did a track test in the same day, running a consistent time, and removing the SSRA lower scoop, running consistent .1sec slower, then replacing it and gaining that time back.

but you wont' see that unless you are moving

Re: SLP FloPack all what it says?

I bought the SLP flow pack and have been happy with it. And the smooth bellow is a POS. It wasn't the right size or shape and didn't allow the lid to seal right, so I used the stock bellow and everything sealed perfectly. While the SSRA is a better design, with the scoop that goes out front, I seriously doubt it will give you any more than 5 hp versus the SLP cai. You won't be able to feel a difference from the seat of the pants.

If it were me, I'd shop around and look for a good deal. I bought the entire SLP package(lid, K&N, cai, bellow) for $180 on ebay. whatever you can get a better deal on, just buy that.

actually, what he wrote was "you won't see any HP on the dyno from a cold air induction", which i believe to be incorrect.

oh, and i think one of the most overlooked things with the ftra and the ssra is that they make it harder to put a big trans cooler on the car, which is important for stalled a4 machines.

Re: SLP FloPack all what it says?

sorry...my bad..misread it.

"they make it harder to put a big trans cooler on the car"

VERY valid point!!!

probably the only way to put one on would be if you could find one that was long and skinny to go along the bottom of the radiator, after the scoop is separated from the radiator by several inches.

i'll take that 5hp....but honestly i think at higher speeds...probably those higher than what is typically attained in the 1/4mi...it IS more than 5hp. somebody on here did some back to back runs with and without the scoop (basically making it like the SLP/ftra unit) and lost a consistent .1sec on the 1/4mi

i'd say it's a worthwhile addition.

Not if you want it bad enough. B&M makes a 19000 gvw rated cooler for street rods that is about 4 inches wide and 10 inches long. It fits very nicely alongside of the SSRA.
