SLP Dual/ Dual on 2000 SS with restrictor?

Ive done many searches and it seems everyone states that the 98 and up SS dont have the silencer/restrictor (like this thread http://web.camaross.com/forums/showp...48&postcount=3 )
I got a 2000 SS about 3k miles ago, and when I got it the tips, in and out, where clean. Now 3k miles later, the passenger tip is the normal sooty black that most f-body exhausts look like. But the drivers tips are pretty much clean still. The only logical explanation I can think of is that something is blocking exhaust from freely flowing out of the drivers tip.
any one else have a thought?

The restrictors came in the two on the left style exausts. The dual dual is quiet enough on it's on.

so what would explain the lack of flow on the drivers side

Well let's see. The exhaust pipe goes into the muffler on the right side so wouldn't it be normal for the tail pipe closest to the inlet, flow more exhaust out?

Not true exactly. It will depend on how the muffler is chambered. Think about stock, borla, and other aftermarket exhausts. They all enter on enter on the right, but they also flow pretty equall from left to righ(with except to borla when plates are wide open. With every other f-body ive seen including my previous one, the exhaust tips would get sooty on both sides.

I was talking about the muffler that he stated he had. Not every muffler.

lol so one tailpipe is dirtier than the other? Give it a few more months, they'll both be filthy.

im going to open up the drivers tail pipe today and look for my self. When I put my hand over the pipe, there is hardly any exhaust comming out comparred to the drivers side.
I'll take some pictures.

Re: SLP Dual/ Dual on 2000 SS with restrictor?

Its confirmed. I just got back from the muffler shop where they removed the ring for me on my 2000 SS with Dual/Dual. as you can see the pipe is restricted to about 1/2 " its sounds alot better now. it was about 2 inches after the muffler, inside the pipe.
Theshop cut the pipe off where it is welded to the muffler, and there it was, about 1-2 inches inside the pipe.

Wow, I might have to check my new SS for this. The exhaust seems too quiet...

Re: SLP Dual/ Dual on 2000 SS with restrictor?

So why would they just put in one restrictor? It seems dumb to put it on one side when the other side will not be any quieter, so whats the point? It was my knowledge that restrictors where a cone type baffle placed in the intermidiate pipe directlly before entering the muffler. If they placed a flat piece of steel with a 1/2 inch hole put in it, I believe it would make the car sound horrible and perform like sh*t. It sounds to me like the exaust dhop took you for however much and gave you piece of plate steel with a hole in it in return. I'm going to run a coat hanger down my drivers side pipe now.......
EDIT: After running a coat hanger down both pipes, the passenger side goes in smoothly all the way to the muffler. The driverside on the other hand stops about 2 inches before the muffler. If I take my pipe off and find this same hole, I'll state that this is the worst designed baffle ever and I still made 333 rwhp through it with just it and a lid.

I was standing two feet from him when he cut the pipe off and got the first look.

Re: SLP Dual/ Dual on 2000 SS with restrictor?

As I said before the muffler is set up to balance the exhaust under normal driving. It's a shorter path from the I-pipe out the drivers tip than it is going in the I across the muffler and back to come out the passenger side. It still has capacity to flow more than the I pipe and has a balanced flow under power. With the restriction removed most of the exhaust will now come out only the drivers side under power.

Re: SLP Dual/ Dual on 2000 SS with restrictor?

Seems to me like removing the restriction will now allow the exaust to flow more freely because it dosen't have to come back to the passenger side to exit. It can now take the straightest path thus making more power.
