SLP Cam Package

Sup Fellas,

I'll have close to 2 grand saved by the end of this year. I still have a warranty on my engine but it's ending soon, so here's my question. I've been looking into cams and a friend of mine told me about the slp head/cam package. From these boards, I've heard some bad things about SLP (Their products being overrated and ****ty) so I was a little skeptical at first but thought I should be open to every suggestion people made.

My question to you guys is if any of you have this or know anyone who does, how happy were you/they with it? Also, if SLP isn't the way to go, what would you guys recommend?

Conditions: Daily Driver (Not long distances though)
Desires: Best bang for the buck

Thanks guys.

We have a '98 Trans Am in the shop right now that is getting our stage II heads/cam package. He brought the car in with SLP's camshaft (214/222), and he said he picked up right at 20 RWHP with the camshaft. You're certainly leaving power on the table with that camshaft. You could step up quite a bit with respect to duration @ .050" lift, keep the setup mild, and even pass emissions! We have a 220/220 camshaft on a 114 LSA that makes great power and idles VERY close to stock. We picked up 31 RWHP with this camshaft in a '00 Corvette with stock exhaust manifolds, stock cats, and LS1 intake manifold.

We are an authorized SLP dealer, so we can get you anything from them that you might be interested in. I think our 220/220 would work best for your wants and needs, though. Let us know if we can help you with anything.

Thanks!

Trevor

Well I was at the track last night and they was a guy that had the ls1 Hot Cam from GM and he was blowing the tires off of it and still running 8.05 to 8.20 in an 1/8 mile but he was turning 90 to 91 mph wich is amazing to me for just a cam car.PS had stock 342 gears m6 and was real radical.

I can certainly do my best! Are you referring to the SLP kit or one of our cam kits?

8.0's aren't too bad for a cam-only car. I was running 7.60's in the 1/8th with stock-internals and a best of 7.30 in the 1/8th with our 228R camshaft and stock heads. 1.5 60' times certainly helped.

You'd be looking at $659.99 for the camshaft, Texas Speed & Performance chromemoly pushrods, and Comp Cams 918 valve springs. Any aftermarket camshaft will work best with a higher stall torque converter. A larger camshaft will move your powerband up some, and a higher stall will allow the engine to stay further up in its powerband on the shifts. It will also make the car a lot more driveable. A 3,500 stall would be ideal with the 220/220. FYI, we carry TCI's torque converters. I'm running one of their 3,800 stalls in my '02 SS with great results!

With any automatic, we recommend custom tuning for best driveability and performance. You could probably get away with opening up the throttle body blade hole for a higher idle, but it will still perform and drive best with custom tuning. We picked up 31 RWHP last week with this cam on a '00 Corvette with stock manifolds and cats!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Trevor
