sleeper.....
i was thinking of making a "sleeper" car.... my z is a hard top.. no leather... it's about as plain as a camaro gets.. well.. with power windows, locks, tilt cruise air.... no other options... no traction control... auto.... anywho.... if i strip the badging off and sort of hide the exhaust... would i be able to surprise many people? specially if i get a lid.... and thinking of some sort of exhaust.... um... is there a way to do this without giving my car away? or will the loudmouth that i put on it or want to put on it give this away? just curious....
no no no.... i haven't ordered the loudmouth yet... was thinking about it... but the sleeper is just an afterthought.... i was thinking... be loud and advertise that you have a performance motor... or be quiet and be thought a wuss till you beat the pants off someone
... just a thought...
... just a thought...
if you want a sleeper take off the badges, do the free mods, Lid, nitrous, LT's, mild stall3200 so your not revving your engine at the blip of the throttle, shift kit, electric cut out...depending on the shot and traction you should be able to run high 11's with a squirt.

Sleeper here...
I drive an all black car (with black badges) and the stock exhaust, and it is nice (at times). The only problem is that I get a lot of V6 Mustang and stock civics that try and race me. I even had a Caravan try and race me the other day! On the plus side, cops tend to ignore me. I am planning on putting a GMMG exhaust along with the Lingenfelter GT2-3 cam (sounds stock) and the matching heads. IMO the LM is very loud, no one would mistake you for a sleeper. How about the SLP two out on left system? It looks pretty unassuming, and isn't that loud. Good luck!
If you want a sleeper then definately remove the badges first. Loudmouth will give you away bigtime so you want slp dual/dual or hooker catback so you can be quiet. Some people will also but a bullet race muffler in the I-pipe so the car can be even quieter then stock and sound more like a V6. Then they put a cutout in front of all that with electric switch.
That should make you look and sound like you might be a V6. Then when a car wants to go you can grin widely, flip the cutout switch and show them your taillights.
But do NOT get the loudmouth if you want a sleeper. It will be a dead giveaway that you are not only a V8 but a modded one at that.

the sleeper sounds like a fun thing to do... so.. do you guys think i should get ground effects then.. if i have all this exhaust like a.. i dono.. hooker or whatever with headers... won't it be noticable? and wouldn't the ground effects kit hide this? just an idea...
Yes, if you get headers or cat backs etc you will sound like a V8. I have yet to hear any V6 that sounds like a V8. To be a true sleeper you'll have to hide that sound as well as masking any visual cues.
The tip off for me that a car is a 6 cyl is a single exhaust tip (besides not being able to hear the V8 rumble or see Z28 on the side). Get you a single in-out dynomax superflow muffler and have it welded up where your stock muffler is w/one pipe coming out exiting on the driver's side. You'll be quiet and still flow decent. Then you can add the cut out further up stream w/the electric valve for quick opening/closing. Do this w/ all the free mods, bolt ons, converter, drag radials (can be a bit of a give away) and N2O. Add some gears later if you want and you'll have a killer sleeper. Just don't pop the hood.
If you want to go all out get an RS body kit w/RS emblems.

I think i have a pretty good sleeper set up (see sig). It's not very loud unless you get on it or you are at a stop light. It's a good highway sleeper IMO. I think a corsa cat-back is a good sleeper exhaust. Even with my set up it's not very loud until i get on it.
