What can done for a M6 though other than gears? Because that decreases your MPG... unless, if you drive the better gears Non-aggressive when you're looking for descent mpg, will it do the job? I'm not looking for 17mpg around the city, but i'm also not looking for 10 or 12mpg either. I don't drive much, but I drive weekly to my girlfriends house which is 1 1/2 hours away so thats why I am so in love with the LS1 because of like its 25mpg on the highway or something like that.

Anyway, I definitely don't want to experience what these people are saying about no jump to the LS1. But then again, slamming it at 1500rpms on any car unless its like a Viper really isn't going to put you through the seat. Even then i'm sure its kind of easy going.

Sorry to be a pain fellas... but I figured I might as well get all the information I can before I get my LS1 so i'm completely prepared.

Chris...really the only thing you can do to increase power for a manual down low other than gears is heads/cam. That's really about it. Find a cam that will produce more low end torque. But I would think the 3.73's is probably your best option for better low end and not totally kill you on MPG.

i agree, with the 3.73s you'll prob loose city driving MPG, but hardly any Highway MPG, thanks to sixth gear.

Also, I have a question: When A4s get torque converters, and they slam on the gas, isn't that like dropping the clutch in a M6? If so then the "lack of power" is not true cause its not apples to apples?

im pretty sure a4s have a lower 1st gear than m6s, yes m6s shift sooner and top out lower but thats because of the final drive ration not the first gear ratio.

Chris,

Just your basic mods like a lid and cat back/cut out are going to help your torque as well as HP. The M6 is prone to wheel spin (steeper gears will make it worse), so some good sticky tires will help you feel the torque available on launches. Add subframe connectors prior to this and don't be suprised if you kill your rearend.

Personally, I could care less about feeling more low end grunt if I'm ahead at the finish line. A friend w/a Syclone tears up cars off the line and they just give up, but his brother in his '93 Firehawk would catch him at the top end and pass him.

BTW: A stock M6 is capable of 29-30 mpg.

A4 cars have a lower 1st but they are teamed with a 2.73 or 3.23 rear ratio whereas a M6 has 3.42 rear ratio.

yah autos are i think 3.06 or 3.07 first gear with 2.73's or 3.23's and manuals are a 2.66 with 3.42's in the rear.

I have never driven an LT1 that has felt faster than an LS1 off of any roll. From a stop the LT1 feels a little faster, but that stops after 15 mph.

Yo

Thats a lot of torque... haha

I want to win races when I race, but i'm not a racer... i'm a very emotional driver I guess you can say, i'll do spurt races by myself and when I do it I want to really feel that motha bitch... L0L

I guess a gutted cat or off road pipe, and LT headers will help that tremendously eh?

With my 4.10's I get ~16-17 city and 27mpg on the highway @80mph. Around town I don't baby it either. Drive it like you stole to the speed limit (cause tickets suck). Just keep the rpms below 1500 when not accelerating. Downshift as needed.

What if I used 6th gear at like 70mph or like 65mph? Would that increase my mpg you think?

How much were the 4.10's all together...? Are there any other mandatory performance parts to make it work well?

I'm sure you would have to do that inorder to get the 27MPG said above, with that being said, I think after I get tires, I might get the gears. I think the gears cost like $300ish

So you think I should just get better tires? Or DR's? Than getting like 3.73's or 4.10's... You think thats a major difference in low end power? Because if those 2 things will do the deed, than that will be my first two upgrades, than the intake, slp loudmouth or maybe just leave it stock for the exhaust, and hooker long tube headers... I was talking to someone in another thread and he was saying that these upgrades are real important...

B & M ripper shifter

Skip shift eliminator

Sub frame connectors

But I also heard that the Pro 5.0 Shifter was really good... so I don't know... but how does that stuff sound? With a gutted cat I might add...

What do you think i'll be looking at with those Parts? rwhp and torque that is... mpg if ya could as well.
