Should I trade the LT1 for the LS1?
Should I trade the LT1 for the LS1?
OK right now I have the T/A in the sig. I found a 2000 T/A 6 speed for $16995. I used to have a 98 T/A and I knew nothing about it at the time. Got the LT1 and learned alot. What should I base getting this on? What are some common issues with a 2000 LS1? Any opinions are encouraged! Thanks
Mike
Oh yeah and my 97 T/A is paid off. But I REALLY want a LS1 6 speed...I'll have no problem paying the payments and insurance, but have a repo on my record (LONG story...got screwed when I went to Korea)

I'd go for the LS1 if you can do it without it hurting you too much financially. The LS1 will also get a lot better gas millage than your LT1 does (depending on how you drive it of course
). As for known problems I don't think there are any for the 2000's. There's been some cases of some LS1s knocking but that's all years of LS1 and it hasn't been a big issue other than it being annoying.

If I were you, hold out for an '01 or '02. If I'm not mistaken, both these years came with the LS6 intake and clutch. There's also a possibility you could have the LS6 block, too. (read this for more info on that....LS6 blocks ) Just my 2 cents there.
no Camaro or Firebird comes with an LS6 engine, never happened. Only way to get that is through the www.gmmginc.net Otherwise, from factory, the LS1 is the only engine. ANyone tell me what I should do performance wise to start? Thanks for the opinions.
Mike
EDIT: OK I posted this after I read the article, thats interesting.

He didn't say engine...or heads...or cam. He's right about the LS6 intake, but I don't have any information about the clutch. And it looks as though you read about the block.
My '98 was plenty fast without any LS6 stuff...before the LS6 was even conceived.

The 01 and 02's came with ls6 INTAKE which added 10 horses on paper. The reality is the 01 and 02 cars dyno a good 20 horses more then the 98-00 models in many cases. I have the ls1 intake but I heard from lots of people who owned both that you can feel the power difference in a 01-02 model.
However, the price on that 2000 looks very good to me and it's a M6 which are hard to find and more fun to drive. I say go for the 2000 because you can upgrade to the ls6 intake with a few $$$. If the miles are not too high then I say jump on that TA.
Good Luck

I traded off my clean 94z for an ls1.If i could go back in time i would have never done it.Give that lt1 a chance first.Instead of making those new car partments put that much money into the lt1 every month
.I wish i had that chance again
but you do dont make the wrong decision
..............Hope this helps

well the thing is I LOVE the style of the 98+ T/As, and the 2000 i want costs 16995. I can get about 8 G's for my trade in and that leaves me with about a 200 a month payment. That i can easily afford. The car has 39k miles (2000 T/A) and i think it'll be worth it overall. Thanks for the opinions guys I appreciate the help.
Now if I could get past this repo issue i had a few years back.....

Repo? Ouch! Yeah, that's a problem.
Get the LS1. It's higher status. It may not have a higher potential, but it takes less work to go fast. You can have a basically stock car running with significantly modified cars. That's cool, easy, and dependable.
