Should I feel bad...?
Re: Should I feel bad...?
...I hope Reznor's kidding.
well. I appreciate all of your comments. from the sound of it, I don't think I'll have to worry about my car falling apart on me. I just traded up into this one from a 200 3.8L camaro M5. So this new car is kicking my a$$. I've only floored it a few times, and still get butterflies. The V6 was pretty sweet though. had to put some money into it here and there. end result, I have a farely unique V6 camaro in my driveway that needs to be sold. But now with my black SS next to it, I think I'll be getting more offers for the SS.

Re: Should I feel bad...?
The main thing you want to make sure and not do is drive the car hard when it's cold. On cold start, let the motor run for 30 seconds or so before putting taking off. Take it easy until it's warmed up. As long as you maintain the car well by using a good oil and filter and changing it every 3k and keeping the coolant and tranny fluid up to par, don't worry about beating on it. Most problems that occurr normally stem from lack of maintenance. Driving hard will expose this more then easy driving.

If you replace enough stuff in the valvetrain and drivetrain, then no... it doesn't cause problems. If you had a stock drivetrain... you'd probably get to do exactly one of my launches.

Re: Should I feel bad...?
Right. My that's exactly what my brother has told me...
I trust his opinion as a volvo technician and current 99' C5 owner. In my previous cars, I have always kept up with my oil changes and regular maintenance. I always wait before driving my car. I NEVER push it at all when it's cold. I've also been told that you shouldn't even trust the temp guage sometimes. just because it says it's up to running temp doesn't actually mean it is.

Re: Should I feel bad...?
Well, part of automobile ownership for everyone, is the enevitable fact that something will go wrong and need replaced. Like said before, how often is up to you. If you're constantly very hard on the car expect it to nickel and dime you to death. Parts will fail, they just do it faster with more power, abuse, and worse driving
Re: Should I feel bad...?
Not to be an ***, but if you can't afford to replace a clutch, maybe you should have bought something a little less expensive. Stuff will break on any vehicle...especially if you drive hard, or have bad luck.
Now that I'm off my soapbox, the LS1 4th Gens are very durable as long as they are well maintained. Enjoy!

I bought my car to enjoy her. I love her and don't abuse her; that's not to say I don't get the lead (or carbon) out, but only after she's warmed.
Sometimes I like to just cruise, and other times It's great to let her rip. Specially with punks in their Mustangs. I feel likes it's my duty, no, obligation to keep sworn enemies at bay.
I didn't buy the car because of it's reliability or wonderful gas mileage or low maintenance, insurance, etc., but because I luv fbods and driving fast.
If repairs are/might be are problem I might not drive her quite like I do...OK, so I probablly still would.
Anyhow, good luck & enjoy!

How hard to you guys drive your Z28's/SS's? obviously some of you consistantly run at the track or autocross but....any major problems in result?
I think I just need to hear how some of you guys drive and I'll feel a little better about it. Thanks

They can take some abuse.
Re: Should I feel bad...?
Like stated before, its all in how you maintain your cars. But I would count on replacing the clutch at one time because it is a wear item. But look on the bright side, at least you can upgrade it!
Re: Should I feel bad...?
I would recommend just keep up the regular maintanance and the car should be fine. Unfortunately these cars do have a weak rearend when it comes to M6 cars. I would not beat on the car too hard but do have some fun
. I just traded my 2002 A4 Z28 for a 2005 Pontiac GTO M6 . I can say that eventhough my Z28 was a Great car, the 05 GTO M6 had the tranny I wanted and Great car as well.
