Should I feel bad...?

I just got my 00 SS M6 just the other day. I know about the great reputation these cars carry. but I just need to know if I should feel bad about beating on my car? I'm not going around doing breakstands or burnouts. but still, you get the picture. How hard to you guys drive your Z28's/SS's? obviously some of you consistantly run at the track or autocross but....any major problems in result?
I think I just need to hear how some of you guys drive and I'll feel a little better about it. Thanks

I don't beat on my car, but I do "enjoy" it. If I wanted to drive like a grama, I wouldn't have bought an SS Camaro.

I agree. These cars were made to take some abuse.

Re: Should I feel bad...?

The stock 10 bolt rear end is crap so don't do high RPM clutch drops.

I dont really beat on my T/A. I mostly drive it normal just like any car. About 2-3 times a week I get on hit and powershift through the gears and bring it up to 100-110mph.Then I slow to normal speeds.

Re: Should I feel bad...?

well. I don't really know what I was trying to get at. I just don't want to end up having to replace a clutch, or something internal that I can't afford. It's an extremely nice car. and extremely fast to boot. I guess I should just feel ok about "clearing out the carbon" sometimes.

As long as you're not power shifting and dumping the clutch too frequently, it should last you a while...unless you start adding power with mods. Then you may reach the threshold of it's holding capabilities. But, I wouldn't feel bad in the least about clearing out the carbon. I honestly don't think I drive mine without flooring once after it's up to temp.

Re: Should I feel bad...?

Not taking your foot off the gas when you shift....where as normal (aka granny) shifting is letting the RPMs drop down to match the drivetrain speed before engaging the clutch on an upshift.

Re: Should I feel bad...?

I don't abuse my car at all... just a some 6500+rpm clutch dumps on slicks to launch her out of the hole.

If you replace enough stuff in the valvetrain and drivetrain, then no... it doesn't cause problems. If you had a stock drivetrain... you'd probably get to do exactly one of my launches.

Re: Should I feel bad...?

Rick-- I think I understand your concerns. Clutch, brakes, tires, they all wear out. How quickly is up to you. The problem is that we can't really replace our F-Bodies with new ones . . . At least that's my concern. Maybe an LS6 Corvette . . . The GTO is uninspiring, despite the great drivetrain. I figure, I enjoy my SS, and generally do NOT drive it like a grandma! I do drive responsibly, though. Mostly.

Re: Should I feel bad...?

Like what was said before, I drive normal but every once in a while I get on it. Probably a couple times a week. I am so darned paranoid of speeding tickets I do 35-40 around town. Yes, I get the occasional idiot who thinks they can run me. Then, depending on situation and what mood I'm in, I'll let them know who's boss.
