shorty headers install
shorty headers install
So i was under the hood of the car today (02 z28 6speed not sure if it matters for my question or not) but what does it take to put shorty headers in. It seems to me i would have to jack the motor up or use my engine lift. or can it be done with out moving the motor at all.
Re: shorty headers install
install should basically be the same as a LT install. but probably wouldn't have to jack the car quite so high.
shouldn't have to move the engine around at all, everything pretty much slips into place.
check out my LT install guide, it covers pretty mcuh everything.
any other questions...just ask.
and it's a good idea to swap your motor mounts for some good poly ones while you have everything out. it's simple with the manifolds removed, and a serious PITA after everything is back in.

Re: shorty headers install
yeah...maybe 5hp if you stick with the stock ypipe and cats....maybe 10 if you go offroad pipe and bigger Ypipe.
it's really not worth the trouble

Re: shorty headers install
Well im trying to keep cats. Unless i can get a Y pipe where they bolt in and out with a set of test pipes. Can i do long tubes with cats? and would i get a better gain.
Re: shorty headers install
longtubes with cats will blow any set of shorties out of the water. a solid 15-20 hp depending on other mods.
and yes you can put cats on LTs...just shop around...although they are not cheap.

Re: shorty headers install
Although, moving the cats is not technically legal. If you wanted to do shorties, all you need are rhino ramps and an extra set of hands when it comes time to get the first bolt started on each side.
