service engine soon light
Purchased used 1 month ago, automatic, power everything, great car, #1 plug wire was loose at purchase, corrected, service engine light comes on after 10 min. stays on, had serviced and dealer said it was the car's computer, replaced it, 8 miles away from dealer light is back on, car has 95,530 miles on it...I was thinking MAF sensor, any suggestions or am I at their will? Car still runs great, just the light stays on.
Originally the dealer said it showed codes for MAF sensor and EGR, but he said he checked out each of theses independently and they appeared to be performing correctly which led him to beleive that the car's computer was misreading the information, so he replaced that, drove it a few miles and found no more problem, guess he didn't drive it long enough. I will take your advice and let you know.
I'd be back at the shop that put the computer in and demand that they fix it this time at no charge. Especially if it is a GM Dealer, they are paid the big$ to know what they are doing. The computer did not fix it. Should not be your problem to pay for what they diagnoise wrong. Do you /they still have the old computer that is probably ok? I always keep my old parts if you /they are not sure it is bad. My Dealer replaced the EGR valve and the SES came on the next day. Then they said it was the EGR solenoid and replaced that. They at least gave me a lifetime waranty on those two parts. This was on my '95Z though. Good luck. Later>>>>>
Well, after 1 computer a MAF sensor and EGR the SES light has finally gone out, have driven the car about 200 miles so far, I guess it's gone for good now. Car runs fine, but It feels a bit slower than before. No, I didn't get my old parts, when I purchased the car I had the dealer put in writing that he would be responsible for any repairs concerning the SES light being on and since I wasn't paying for it, I didn't press it.Thanks
