Service engine soon?
Hey guys my service engine soon light came on yesterday and was wondering what the problem could most likely be. My ss is a 6spd with 43k miles on it. Also I work long hours so getting the car in will be difficult so if at all possible give me a time frame that I can work with. Thanks.
I bet it's your catalytic converters, they're going bad.
My SES light came on when my car had your mileage and that's what was wrong with mine. I took it to Autozone and they scanned my car for free and I was running too rich in banks 1 and 2. I'm getting the catalytic converters and Y-Pipe replaced under the factory warranty on Tuesday. If your car has less than 80K on it, this service is FREE because it's under warranty. Just go to Autozone and have them run your codes.

There's not enough information there for anybody to make an educated guess towards what's wrong, so don't go buying any parts or replacing anything yet.
The first thing you have to do is get the code read. Autozone will usually do it for free. Once you know what the code is, come back and post the results, then someone can help with pinpointing the problem.

I went to autozone and the problem is either o2 sensor or one of the cats. Tuesday I have it checked at a shop for the exact problem. I bought my car from an individual and I have no idea if it is under warrantly, but the federal commission allows any car under 80k miles for free work? Does anyonw know for sure about this? If it is the cats should I just get Random Tech high flow cats because eventually I want performance cats? Thanks.
krillanaross - They shouldn't hassle you for the catback, if they try call another dealer.
Buffdaddy - Call a dealer and give them the code, if it's a bad cat they should replace it for free.
A friend of mine had one of his replaced free at 45K on his 2000Z, and he has a QTP electric cutout.

, just check your warranty book in your owner's manual, it will be there, it doesn't matter who you bought it from, as long as the car is 80K or under, they have to replace a bad catalytic converter.
