Sensor on air baffle - how to remove?

I'm putting on an MTI clear air lid. There were no instructons at all. I'm looking at the air baffle I removed and I see the little sensor (IAT sensor and grommet?) but how does it come off? I really don't want to break it. It looks like a little rubber grommet that is all the way through the baffle and a sensor that slides into it. But for the life of me I don't see how to remove it without destroying it. Any advice for my heavy hands?

The sensor does slide into the grommet - put a couple drops of liquid dishwashing soap on it - should come out alot easier. Rinse and dry throughly before re-using. If you break the sensor it's not expensive, grommet should survive no matter how much you pry on it. Just in case: IAT is PN 12160244, grommet is 24504288.

Re: Sensor on air baffle - how to remove?

Thanks! I did just like you said. I put a little soapy water on it, twisted it a little, then yanked it out with a pair of pliers.
It came out with no trouble. Then it all slid right into the new MTI cover. The hardest part was getting that MTI cover in place without breaking it. It looked to be very brittle plastic. But I did it. It seems to all work good.

You know, I just never really looked at the intake cover, but that one slit in the bottom, just underneath the air filter, looks very restrictive in itself. I cranked her up and felt the air flow at idle and could barely feel a breeze. But I would assume at WFO there would be a lot of resistance. Seems to me there should be a bigger opening somehow. Oh well, it works OK for now.

Thanks again!

Some people cut the bottom box to get more air flow - there's a guide at www.installuniversity.com if you want to check it out. Filter will get a lot dirtier, alot quicker if you do it though.
