seat belt help

Anyone ever snap that piece of plastic on their seatbelt?? I went to adjust my seating position a few weeks ago, heard a snap, looked down and saw a nice big crack on the back side of the belt. Now, the piece has come completely off and now the belt feels loose. It doesn't hold like it should when the piece is there. I'm guessing I'll try the dealership for a part number and try to put it together myself.

I would just replace it with an OEM part. Broken plastic will not be as strong as a solid, new piece. Plus, if you're going to try to heat-solder it in some fashion (melt it together, super glue it, etc), it'll probably come out looking lousy. For the price of all your time and materials to fix the broken one, you could probably get a brand new one from your local Chevy dealer.

The fact that it broke in the first place is a question I'd pose with the folks at the Chevy dealership. See if you can find out if this is a common problem and if there's a better remedy (metal vs. plastic) replacement part? or how to avoid cracking it in the future.

Hey, I have the same problem with my 2000. I went to go put my seatbelt on the other day, looked down and it was snapped in half. I don't think it interferes with the job of the seatbelt, it just covers the metal...cleaner look & not as hot to touch when in the sun. I'll probably go take it over to a local dealership and see if they can put a new one on, but i'm not too worried about it.

Well, according to the "well informed" (sorry -- couldn't resist) service counter at my local dealership, the little piece of plastic isn't replaceable. I need to buy a whole new belt...which, according to them, is $150. So, I'm debating on just how urgent of a fix this is. Might be time to give Jason Cromer another call.

OK, for a buck-and-a-half I'd skip it, too.
