running rich

Ok heres the story. About 2 weeks ago I put on MAC headers. Problem was, there was no place to connect the EGR. Called up Ls1speed.com, and they said don't worry about it, block it off. According to them, the '01's and '02's don't have EGR because of the LS-6 intake (which they said i should buy lol ). Now my car is running really rich, and according to another shop, the EGR needs to be reconnected, and the O2 sensors rechecked. So the original shop is using part of my stock headers on the MAC ones to hook up the EGR. Is this the right thing to do? Do LS-6 manifold's really eliminate this? I'm a little lost, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I was always under the impression that you should keep your EGR connected to maitain emissions and fuel economy. Without it, your NO emissions will go way up and I think you're more prone to knock.

I thought that too. But ls1speed.com said it didn't matter. According to them 01-02's didnt have it at all. Now I'm running really rich, according to one of the people the car goes into a limp mode, and runs rich. So I'm going to reconnect it. Is it true LS-6 intakes don't have it at all?

Looks like they're right:

But it looks like you can get LS6 heads with an EGR mod:

Still can't explain why it's running rich, though...

When you install headers on any 98+, its gonna run richer...I have an 02-no egr/air, and it did the same. Friend has an 00 SS and took the egr/air OFF when the headers were installed, and although it ran a bit richer (like mine) it was fine. Most 98-00 owners I know take the EGR off anyhow.

I can still pass the sniffer for emissions, and my gas mileage is still the same as it was before my header install...My 02's are also fine.

you should eliminate your O2 sensors completely they are a bit of a waste just go to a shop and get them taken from the computer thats what HPP sez in there 10 greatest LS1 mods article....and leave the EGR alone
