Rough Idle - need advice

I have a new 2002 SS w/less than 1k miles on the engine. Since I got the car, I noticed it idled somewhat rough, with an occasional but noticeable "miss" / "shake" felt when in neutral at a stop light.

A Chevy mechanic told me this is normal with the LS1. Sounds kind of odd to me for a new performance engine. I'm using premium fuel, no mods to the car.

Does this sounds like normal operations or is a trip back to the dealer's shop in order? Obviously, I need to find a mechanic who believes it's a problem..... any advice or experience with this kind of problem?

Thanks!

Is the idle consistantly the same RPM and you car just feels like it has a small shake to it? Or does the idle fluctuate? If it has a small shake to it that is completely normal. Remember these engines are putting out over 1hp for every cubic inch. Thats a lot of power to keep inside. There is bound to be a little shake to it.

It's normal. I've probably driven 50 LS1s since they came out, and all have done it.

Don't worry about it

I have only been in a few and all have done it. Mine does it. That is a powerful engine just waiting to be released. Part of the car I enjoy. If I wanted an engine that was powerful but silky smooth I would of bought a BMW. I like the feel of a real muscle car. Enjoy it. Part of the experience.

Course man, the engine is running and its connected to the clutch (right?). Well anyway, it's connected to something in there, and since the engine is running, of course it will vibrate. I'm certain more powerful cars do it even more.

I remember when I was younger, about 12 or so, my dads car would vibrate like a bastard, it even shook his hand and wrist some when he had his hand on the **** @ idle...and nothing was wrong with the car.

It felt cool

Normal. My '01 does it all the time when sitting in neutral at the light. If you put a cutout on the exhaust, it helps mask it so you don't notice it as much.
