Ring & Pinion Out

I own a 2000 Camaro SS with 44k miles and the ring & pinion went out last week. Just got it back from the shop with a $1600 bill...good thing I opted for the extended warranty. Anyway, anyone else run into this problem at this few of miles on your car?

$1600 bill?? that sounds really.. I got a used rear for $500, and got it thrown in, swapped out the diff for a T2R for $390..

At about 45k my one of the boltheads on the stock oem torsen casing sheered off, got chewed up in the gears, and cracked the housing..

sounds like the only parts used in his rear were the axles and they arent necessarily the weak link in a 10 bolt...for a few more bucks i wouldve upgraded to a 12 bolt if i had been in your shoes...and what did the rear do to make you have to replace the entire rear end housing?...i mean axles, cover, diff ok but the whole rear?
