Replace LS1 rear main seal

Do you have to drop the oil pan? I know you have to pull the tranny, how much of a pita is that on an A4 car? A friends car needs it.

I've never changed one and I'm sure that most of the rest of the crew here hasn't either. I just had the pan off of mine and it didn't involve the rear main so I'd have to guess that you wouldn't need to drop it to change the seal. But that's just a guess.

I haven't seen too many LS1 rear main seals leak.

It's not typical at all.

i just changed mine out this week on my m6. its easy you just have to drop the tranny. and pull off your flexplate then theres like 10 or 12 bolts and out it comes. youll have to change both the rear main seal and the gasket that goes around the aluminum plate that holds the trear main seal.
