Rebuilding LS1 Advise

Little over a year ago I spun an bear in my motor. I have over 100k miles on the motor. Should I rebuild, buy a used block (transfer parts over) or pick up a used LS1? I not looking to spend a lot of money.

Are you going for a stock rebuild or wanting to add some performance?

Re: Rebuilding LS1 Advise

My friend bought a 98 T/A with a blown engine and we threw in an LQ4(he thought it was an LQ9 when he bought) he bought for $900 but the guy threw in an engine stand and a cherry picker. They make very good power and also have the potential to be stroked to a 408 which is why my friend decided on it with my persuasion. I would go with a 6.0 iron block if I were you. Just my 2 cents

Re: Rebuilding LS1 Advise

I would just buy a junkyard motor. If you can do the labor yourself, you should be able to get by under $2000.

If you do a rebuild, it is easy to get $500-$1000 in machine work. If you go aftermarket with a crank, pistons, and rods, figure about $2500 for the rotating assembly and rebuild parts. At that point, it seems like a waste to put stock heads on it, so tack on another $2000 or so.

Shoot me a PM if you want (I am in Warren) if you need a motor - I know a junkyard that has a low mile LS1 right now.
