??? reason speedometer isn't working (rebuilt wreck car)

a buddy of mine is doing the finishing touches on a 2000 Trans Am WS6 that i bought wrecked from texas. The car has had engine work done to it (so far all i know is heads/cam..i would like to contact the original owner and find out more). The car was somewhat stripped of it's interior and external mods and was replaced with factory items. The instrument cluster was unplugged for some odd reason. He reconnected it and the mileage and trip and all the gauges work except for the speedometer. I was wondering what could possibly cause only the speedometer not to work. This causes the mileage to stay the same. I was thinking that there could have been a mod done to keep it from racking up the miles. Any suggestions??? I am going to pick it up this afternoon (x-mas eve). I would like to try and get him to fix the speedo today while he has it..

Your help is very much appreciated,

Jonathan Arndt

Put it on a scanner. If the vehicle speed in the computer is also zero it is the vehicle speed sensor in the tranny. If the computer is reading correctly than it is the speedometer or wiring or fuse.
