Rear End Leak

My rear end is leaking with 10,500 miles on the car. It has less than 20 races on it, street and strip. The car is still on the Goodyears and has the 4L60E trans and the mods below. I've heard of the stock rear ends letting go with stickier tires but I've still got the crappy Goodyears. How much can the rear end take? Is mine already dying? HELP!

No, they all leak. Pinion seal is bad. You are under warranty. Take it to the dealer and have them fix it. Not a real big job....

not sure if you realize this or not, but sometimes things leak. the dealer isn't going to shocked it's leaking and neither should you. parts fail, that's part of cars.

Thumbs up

I agree...Of all the things that's happened to my car, that's another. The dealer fixed it double quick and I was out the door in no time.

It will only fail if enough fluid leaks out. Go get them to fix it. Things do leak, but part of that $20+k you paid is for that 3/36 warranty.....

Trust me 02 Z28 rear pinion seal leaked, so when I had the t-tops fixed (which they just readjusted passenger side window and replaced rubber on Driver's side), the dealer also replaced my pinion seal.. About 1 week ago, I had my car in the shop since the Rear Tranny Tail Housing Seal was leaking and was fixed w/ no problems... Plus all the people at the dealership was commenting on how great my car sounds w/ Dynomouth...

Define leaking ... are we talking a drop or two on the driveway each night?? A small puddle? Or simply a build up of fluid on and around the pumpkin??

I've just got fluid on and around the differential cover, but I'll go get it fixed ASAP. Thanks everyone, I feel better now.

Don't bother ... that's normal and is a result of the porous metal that the differential is made of ... if you're actually leaking it is generally the pinion seal and you will know it ... there will be a little present under the car after you parked for a few hours or less ...

These minor leaks/seepage,just shows you how much the rear end and tranny tail shaft flex under hard acceleration. The twisting of the rear lets a little out everytime you do by creating in input pinion shaft to have a gap on one side or another.Like a small crecent gap between shaft and seal.I concluded Maybe the GW traclink helps eliminate most of seepage.Giving the rear a more stable reduced flex connection?
Pumpkins refer to a third member type rear end i.e. ford 9" or a toyota rear.Where the whole ring&pinion, shaft ,front housing can be removed in one piece from the front of the rear end. I like these they are easy to replace, unlike the 10 bolt having to be taken apart in pieces,w/ c-clips and such done from the rear of the rear end inside cover.
