Rattling sound on acceleration

Rattling sound on acceleration
Hi,
I have a problem similar to the author of another post: "car making ticking noise." Often when I give the car some gas, it sounds like the valves are knocking or something. It's sort of a 'rattling' sound.
Any ideas on this noise? Bad gas, need sparkplugs, fuel injectors??? I'm an automotive moron, so please keep it simple for me.
Oh yeah, 98 Z-28 V8 6-speed. 49k miles.
Thanks in advance,
H. Scott

loud enough to hear iinside the car...that could be a problem.
does it change with rpm level? could be lifter tap.
is it engine or could it be pieces of a broken catlyitic converter rattling?

Ok. Thanks much. I did some more looking around and it seems your right. I heard suggestions from gas (I've been using reg. unleaded, but am switching to 93), spark-plug wires (in one case), and even wires in the MAF. Now, I write into that forum and asked: "What's a MAF?" but nobody answered.

Re: Rattling sound on acceleration
MAF = Mass Air Flow Sensor. Some people get paranoid about oil based air filters (K&N) leaking oil into the air stream and getting on the sensors of the MAF, so if you have an oil based filter just don't go and soak it in oil.

yeah you have to run 92+ octane in these cars because of the higher compression ratio. Per your owners manual. How long have you been running reg unleaded? And can't that actually damage your engine over a longer period of time?
