Rattling inside Catalytic converter...

wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with what sounds like a loose bolt/piece of metal in the catalytic converter...thanx!

Yup! Do a search in this forum under keyword "catalytic" and you'll find a few other threads about the same thing. Time for a new cat .

do you know if im doin any more damage to my setup by not fixing this right away?? or any sorta painless ways to gut the cats on an ls1?

If you were anywhere other than Cali., I'd say gut the cat's and be on your way ..... but you've gotta pass pretty strict emissions testing, don't you? I think your best bet is replace the bad cat (for what they cost).

I see you are in California. Not sure how strict emissions are in your particular neck of the woods, but I would exercise caution with hacking off a cat.

yeh ca is the **** of emissions, but we gotta guy that accepts cash only for smog!...what do i do with the sensors on the cats if i decide to just lose them?? thanx 4 all the input

Either have the PCM tuned or plug an 02 simulator into the rear 02 sensor harness connector to avoid an SES light.

there was a "problem" notice sent out to many, not a true "recall" notice. call the dealer, it might be covered still

Believe the extended warranty on the cats is only for 00-02 cars w/stock cats. Dealer will freak when they see SLP LTs.

Exactly!! A) wrong year, B) wrong exhaust!! I don't think the dealer will be helping you out any on that one?!

so after a couple days the rattling has become less frequent and a second rattle has started further down in my exhaust...it possible for the honeycomb in the cat to blow out of the exhaust??

More than likely it'll end up in your muffler and that is where it'll stay, blocking your airflow.
