quick question. C5 and z06 brakes are identical?
Since them two smarta$$es didn't give you a direct answer....
Yes, the brakes on a normal Vette (C5) are the same as the brakes on a Z06 Vette (also C5). They were so good to begin with (for being a factory setup) Chevy didn't wanna mess with it and up the cost even more.

Actually i believe the Z06 brakes are a upgrade but not like most think. While they still have 2 pistons up front and 1 in rear like C5s and Fbodies they actually have a larger contact area of the pad with the rotor which allows for better braking. More surface area more grip.
Nope, only difference is the color of the powdercoating...

The difference in the C5 brake pad and the F-Body brake pad is very slight.
Surface area is almost identical, within a couple of square centimeters of each other.
The difference is the curvature of the pad itself. Because the F-Body pad works on a 12" rotor and the C5 pad works on a 13" rotor, the arc is slightly different.
Using F-Body abutment brackets requires the use of F-Body pads. The curvature of the F-Body pad creates a slight overhang of the pad off of the rotor. And I mean SLIGHT ... less that a 1mm. It's not an issue, as far as I can tell.
Using C5 abutment brackets forces you to use C5 pads. I never went this route, so I can't give any advice or cautions about using it. I do know that the C5 bracket gives more clearance to the rotor than the F-Body bracket does. I had to grind off some casting flash to keep EBC rotors from hitting the bracket.
The primary difference in the F-Body and C5 calipers is the piston size and the gap where the rotors run. The C5 caliper is about 1/2" wider than the F-Body. That's so it can accomodate a significantly thicker rotor.
The C5 caliper and the Z06 caliper are the same, except for color.
