questions about getting a dual exhaust

I have a SLP LM exhaust on my 98 z. Sounds good and all, but i was wondering what i would have to do to get a dual exhaust? I know that is a blunt question, but there are many parts i am asking about. 1. Would i have to get rid of my current exhaust to make it dual? 2. If not, is there a way to buy another muffler and turn it into a dual? 3. I am guessing yes, but would a dual system sound a lot louder than just the reg LM exhaust? 4. Is a dual setup smog legal? 5. What is needed for a dual set up and what manufacturer makes the loudest sounding dual exhaust setup? 6. Will the increased weight of a dual exhaust be countered by the hp gains it would make? I thank you for any help any of you can give me wth this.

Do a search for 'true duals' on any F-body message board and you'll receive tons and tons of threads with the answers to your question

(1)True Dual's are a completely different exhaust from a single (y-pipe) setup.

(2) Refer to # 1

(3)The true dual setups that I've heard in person had a mellow sound at idle while nice and loud under revs.

(4)Technically true duals aren't smog legal since most people don't place cats on their system, but I thought once upon a time I read that any time you remove the cats from their factory location, then it's illegal not to mention a majority of people dump it before the rear axle and in most places that's illegal as well

(5) You can buy pre-fab'd true duals from a vendor such as TSP (sponsor on this board) or some people go with Lane's true dual setup. Sound all depends on what type of bullet/chambered mufflers you decide to use.

(6) Most TD exhaust's weigh less than a typical catback due to most people dumping them before the axle.
