question: catalityc converter
question: catalityc converter
hello!!
i just bought a 2001 SS M6 with 21000 miles on it, it came with the slp lid and the slp catback. i've been reading a lot about modifications and well i've concluded that the best first modification that can do is the headers,so i'm planning to buy a pacesetter lt's so my question is what is the best thing that i can do with the catalityc converter? buy the slp highflow, eliminate them? or leave the originals on? i dont want to get the check engine sign on but i really want hp. also maybe this is a dumb question but what does ORY, and the cutout modification means?

Re: question: catalityc converter
ORY = off-road y-pipe
It's called that because it's not legal on the road because it has no catalytic converters.
A cutout is a small piece of exhaust piping with a pipe that points away from the exhaust system that's usually welded in before your catalytic converters with a plate that can opened and closed. When the plate is open, your exhaust basically has no restrictions and it's an instant 10HP and VERY loud. Most people keep it closed for normal driving and open it up when racing. There are electronic cutout systems available where you can flip a switch inside the car which opens and closes the plate automatically.
Depending on your emissions laws, ditch the cats. You can get the car tuned to avoid the SES (check engine) light.

Re: question: catalityc converter
Not to hi-jack your thread, but what are my options if I don't want headers or high flow cats. Are test pipes with o2 sims the answer, if so where do you find them at.
