PS & Oil coolers
PS & Oil coolers
Were these avail on both the WS6 & Hawks????
I am looking to buy a Hawk preff. 01 or 02, anyway, I want to do a few tracks days (road course) and wondered if they were on these cars, I know the PS cooler was on the WS6's.

Re: PS & Oil coolers
I don't believe there was ever a factory oil cooler, but there was a facotry ps pump cooler.. basically, its routes the PS fluid into a big hose/metal collector that runs inline with engine coolant.. So basically, your PS fluid will be cooled by engine coolant. I can't remember anymore what options you had to check ot get it, and what years it was avail...
Other people have simply installed a small trans fluid radiator under their car, and routed the PS lines to go thru that..
There's arguments on which way is overall most effective. You can probably find a few floating out there on the for sale section..
There is an aftermarket steering pump.. TurnOne was it called? i forget.. Basically, its is/or is similar to the ASA steering pump design.. basically turns slower, which sloshes the ps fluid less on highspeed, which reduces the temps.. obviously very low rpm and speed, steering effort is increased a bit.
I've seen pics of people using the "sandwitch" adaptors at the oilfilter to reroute the oil to another small radiator to cool oil temps.. Some even put a thermostat to aid oil warmup temps. I believe Lou at LGMotorsports a while back was making a run of radiators that has an oil cooler built right in. Not sure if they finally released it in large numbers or not.
at AutoX, i've seen people setup with Accusumps.. basically an oil pressure res that releases oil pressure when it detects oil pressure dropping, and "recharges" itself when its back up..
I don't have any direct links on hand.. if you search around this site, and others like ls1tech and frrax (fbody roadrace and AX), you can probably dig the info again..
Also, there's a bunch of people that have made homemade brake ducting.. some installed ducts int he fenders.. other used the fog light holes.. or just the front valence.. some stole air off from the front air dam.. snaked tubing,a nd then various different ways to clamp the hose down and point air at the rotor and caliper..
then there's talk about wheel bearings and which ones people use/replace..
Is mitchntx still around here?
(basically, i was at the same point/interest as you a year or two ago, but things came up i haven't gotten around to prep and hit an open track day)

Re: PS & Oil coolers
Wow, thanks for the abundance of help, that gives me a few ideas and some ideas of places to look around so I can have fun and not wear out my street car.
