A Header is a Header????
A Header is a Header????
I want to get headers for my car and I was looking for the best one. SLP says 41HP and 58Ft Ibs. Are these numbers for real?? Some of my friends tell me a header is a header and that I shouldn't waste money on the costly SLP headers. What would you recommend??

"SLP says 41HP and 58Ft Ibs"
man i have some ocean front property in colorado for you if you're interested!!
i've seen several dyno tests of headers. on a stock internal engine, just bolt ons...15-20hp is about right for LTs
given the same primary size, and collector size...all LTs should yield similar results +/- an accepted deviation.

Re: A Header is a Header????
All LT headers will net you about the same gains. The main differences between the different brands (kooks, slp, pacesetter, ect) are fitment and what they are made of (stainless steel vs mild steel vs coated vs uncoated).
SLP's are stainless steel but are known for poor clearance issues. They scrape alot and lowered cars need to steer clear of them or so I am told. Kooks are also stainless steel and often referred to as the "cream of the crop". They are the best IMO but are also among the most expensive. Coated Pacesetters are the best "bang for the buck" IMO if money is tight and you don't care about not having stainless steel.
I kind of like the dynatech ones for those that want a complete setup with catted Y-pipe. Mild steel isn't as good as stainless but I have seen some good sales on them and the fitment is supposed to be good as well.
Good luck

Texas Speed and Performance has a great deal on Pacesetters and the TSP catted-y pipe. A good set up. Very pleased with mine and the deliverly was fast.

How do the Pacesetters sound with the catted y-pipe?

Where did you get those numbers from? Did you speak to a SLP rep???

Gain up to 41 horsepower and 58 lb.-ft. of torque, depending on your application!
And yes, most LTs should be good for about 20-25rwhp.

Since I live in New York State, the emission laws are really strict. Not only do we have to pass the sniffer, but also a visual. So instead of risking it, I got the catted-Y. The cats are hi-flo and they flow so good, the computer will still throw a code. Therefore, I still run the o2 sims. As far as the sound, it's just alittle louder. But with my GMMG, it still sounds awesome.
