Proud new owner of an LS1

Well as of Monday I will be the owner of a 99 Z28 M6. Sold my 97 T/A for it. I used to own a 98 T/A and was one of those 18 year olds with a bad *** car that didnt know crap about it. Since then, I have owned 3 F-bodies and have learned more than I thought I could. With that, anything I should look out for after I get this car? Its already got Hooker LTs and Y, Flowmaster catback (replacing it for a Magnaflow) a Whisper lid and a new MAF. First thing I am getting is a Pro 5.0 shifter. What else should I look into?

Also, I am the one who installed the full exhaust setup on this car with the owner. He is a co-worker. So I know how to work on them. Just curious as to what problems these cars have. My 98 T/A had the crappiest tranny ever. EVER.

Congrats.

The only problem I can think of, offhand, is squealing belts. I'm sure others will chime in though.

Warped rotors. Although since the car is a 99, they were probably already replaced.

I'd recommend buying a short stick for the stock shifter instead of the Pro 5.0.

Warping rotors aren't just crappy parts. It's crappy maintenance. If you take your car to a shop they will not tighten the lugs in the correct order and this will warp your rotors.I have 65k miles on my stock rotors and they are still perfect.I drag my car every weekend at the track so I am pretty hard on my brakes (powerbreaking, etc...).Just do all your own work and remember to tighten in a star pattern and your rotors will be fine. Also, no one will care for your car like you!

My rotors warped straight from the factory, along with many others on the board. You are correct in saying that using the improper amount of torque can lead to warping, but it is a well known issue with these cars.

Hey now, I helped mod this car before I even thought about buying it. i am the one who installed the LTs and exhaust on the car. I just want a short throw and then i might think of a cam or something later. Only thing is I dont have the cash for a 12 bolt, so I cant go to far...

Suspension, suspension, suspension. What good is all that might if the car can not handle it. Something to think about

"What good is a fast car if you cant turn?" - Mario Andretti

"If you can turn you're not going fast enough" - John Force

hehe

Congrats on the new ride.

My .02 on warped rotors, the rears are due to people pulling the ebrake while the rotors are hot. Even tho it is a shoe design, I still thing it would apply unequal pressure (to a small degree) and warp the rotors.

I have 27k, 200+ autocross runs on the car, 50 passes at the strip and my rotors are just starting to pulse. I dont think thats unreasonable.

In the summer time when you go to the car wash make sure your rotars are not blazing hot. The cold water being sprayed on your rotars from what I understand can cause warping.

Wink

Congrats on your purchase!

If, at some point, there seems to a bunch of parakeets under the hood , it is usually due to failing idler pulley. Very common problem in 99's.

Thatnks for the input everyone. I have one other question, I have been on this board for awhile now and i still dont know what LCA's are. I never asked before, but now I wanna know.

WHat do you guys suggest in the ways of suspension? Torque arms, control arms, sub frame connectors?
