problem with the ls1

Started the car up yesterday after work and it didnt want to stay on. The car started and stayed on for like 3 seconds, then it would stumble and die. I tried this like 6 times and each time it died after staying on for 2-3 seconds. The battery is only 2 months old. Lights were working, so it couldnt be the battery. Plenty of oil. Gas tank is 3/4 full. Oil press was fine. I checked the fuel press and there wasnt any, could this possibly mean that the fuel pump is bad? I finally started it up after 30 minutes of checking everything, everytime i came up to a stoplight she would stumble and sound like she was gonna die, rpms dropped down to like 300-400 then went back up to 600, everything was fine when I was driving, so not sure what the problem is. The car did this acouple days ago too, at school, but after 2 tries she came on.

Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks.

Sounds like a bad fuel pump.

If it was the battery why would there be no fuel pressure and why would it it start after he waited 30 min?

Check the voltage on the battery after it dies. That will tell you if that is the problem. Could be the fuel pump. Cheaper and easier things to try first: Make sure your MAF is hooked up and your air intake assembly is complete from the back of the MAF to the throttle and try the fuel filter. I would hope the fuel filter wasn't that bad, but they are sheap and easy to change out.

Car works fine now, i dont know what the problem was. I checked the battery voltage everything fine, not the alternator either. The maf and air box assembly are fine, no vacumm leaks as well. Oil and oil pressure are fine, dont know what the problem was.

I just replaced the fuel filter, and the k&n air filter, the one i had was kinda dirty from the free ram air mod i have. Everything started up fine. Drove the car around town, nothing wrong. I just went into the garage and checked the fuel pressure again and the pressure was at 52 lbs. So I dont know what the heck was wrong last night. Maybe the cold air made it get stuck or something, i dont know, but its working fine now.

I had a problem like that on my lt1, and it was my throttle position sensor.

it does sound like a TPS, i had a problem with an explorer that did the same thing. it wouldnt let the car idle for ****, had to replace that damn thing 3 times over two years. but i guess thats what you get for having a ford.

Actually, now that you guys mention that ... the same thing happened to my Mom's '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee ... the TPS failed, so we had to drive it "two footed" (always one foot on the gas) to get it around until the TPS got replaced.

Have TPS's been a common failure on any/many GM's? Or more specifically, LS1's? And doesn't it seem weird that a few of us have had the problem only happen ONCE and then just "go away" like it never happened before?!?!

normally when a tps goes bad it doesn't fix itself, you really can't even clean it to make it work better
