Question Price for a new cam install

Hey guys,
How much could I expect to spend on getting a reputable shop to install a new cam in my car? I used to have a higher mileage LT1 and did mostly bolt-on modifications. When you starting getting inside the engine, I'm clueless. I don't have a lot of money (i.e., insurance/car payments are expensive) and am pretty sure I could not afford heads as well. Basically if I went up to a shop and said install this type of cam, how much would they charge me. Thanks for the help. Modifying cars can be so addictive! Hopefully a new cam will satisfy my thirst for power, although it probably won't!!

Depends on the shop. My buddy has a shop here in San Jose (i know its not local for you) and he charges about $500 for a cam swap. There is a guy across town that has a shop and he charges $1500.00 and it takes him 3 days(hes whack). It all depends on the shop really.

If you have 2.73s, get 3.73s instead of a cam.

It's a 4 hour job, taking your time...if someone take longer than that, their retarded...but if you change the springs etc..add another 2hrs.
