Alot has to do with shocking the drivetrain.. A violent launch on the dragstrip with slicks can do damage.. Automatic guys seem to be on average having a better time keeping things together, maybe because they transmit less of a shock.. Manual guys that drop the clutch at 5000 rpms and just hook and go are the ones breaking things....

With slicks and a strong clutch you can break the rear with a stock engine. You do not need any extra power to break things, just traction. However I have not yet seen an Auto break a rear (even with a stall). The M6s have more of a problem.

this is true, an auto is much easier on the read than a manual because of the drivetrain shock factor. however, there is no definitive hp that it will last until. it really hard to say. for an auto 400 or 500 is certainly not out of the question, but also not guaranteed. if you have a 4800 stall and 15'' wide hoosier slicks with an otherwise stock car it could go. on the other hand, i have seen plenty of 10 second autos with the stock 10-bolt.
