Question Porting LS6 INTAKE?

Has anyone tried to or had someone port the LS6 intake? I don't have the money for the 90/90 at the moment but will have the intake off soon. Why not hog out the stock intake as deep as you can reach into the runner's? I spoke to Futral about the 90/90 when I ordered my F-14 and they said that it's alot of money for 10HP but they work very well when ported. Why not open up my stocker and save the money. I was at E-TOWN today and spoke to someone with a similar set up as I will have but he has a 90/90. He told me that Car Tech in NJ did his set up and they can port the LS6 for a 5-10 rwhp gain. His car was a stick like mine with a little more compression and cam but I think my head's may flow a little better due to bigger int valve's. I saw him run an 11.10 today and the track was marginal. I tried to find Car tech on line but did'nt so I am going to call some local guy's and see if they have done a plastic intake before. Any input is appreciated!!!!!

have you looked into the 90mm upgrade for the ls6 that TPIS does? they cut the stock nose off the intake, and put on the 90mm nose from an ls2...

intake and new tb cost less than the FAST intake alone... and yields good gains, similar to the FAST

Would'nt it be easier to just get an LS2 intake and a 90mm throttle body rather than cut up 2 intake's to make 1? Or is there a differance between the LS6 and LS2 that make's this a better performing set up? Anyway I am having a problem getting the Edelbrock 80mm t-body I bought on E-BAY from interpro_inc over 10 day's ago and have not gotten a reply or any shipping info from, So maybe I will save up for the 90/90 and do what I know will give the best performance gain. I will see how I can get my money back through paypal. BEWARE OF INTERPRO_INC!!!!!!!!

My buddy was going to port his to match his head runners.

I'm wondering how deep you can really go... ... I'm thinking use a micrometer to be sure each port is the same... Measure your head ports and go from there.

I think having an intake manifold runner bigger then the head intake runner would loose some flow. Maybe just port the inside, past the port opening...

But then what happens if you mic it and it has the same width but it's offset? You need to be able to mark where the intake ports set in relation to the intake.

Measure to the nearest bolt hole, compare to the intake. Or maybe take a pencil and a sheet of paper and 'color' over the ports and bolt holes.. Transfer over to the intake manifold ports. Or if your hands are dirty enough (or use charcoal), use the dirt on your hands/fingers.

They should line up. If you have aftermarket P+P'd heads, the ports might be slightly bigger.

Another idea... smear a little bit of RTV on the intake gaskets. Lay the intake into place and remove it. -Not that accurate, but will give you a general idea.

What do you use to port a composite intake so that it doesn't get chewed up or melt??

Better, simpler and more accurate....get some posterboard or card stock and lay it on your heads and make templates.
