ported stock mass air ends

I ported my stock mass air ends. Before i ported them i experienced no detonation. After porting the stock ends i can now hear detonation at top end(between 5000 and 6000 rpm) I ran the car on a dyno last month and it was "pulling timing out on the top end" the dyno guys told me that it was because of the mass air ends......has any of you experienced this problem? I have a 2000 SS 6 speed. i had a 2000 Z28 that i put whisper mass air ends on it and experienced nothing of the sort. any help?
mods:
air lid
ported MAF
TB bypass
160 t-stat

MAF ends and/or porting stocks ones does not work for long. On my stock '02 it worked by itself and I did see a dyno proven 8rwhp gain. However, when I added a lid and filter....all I got was a bunch of detonation from 5-6K RPM and ususally a SES light for a lean condition. The probelm was that the car would just lean out too much and I had no way to control it. I could run the MAF ends by themselves fine, or the lid and filter by themselves fine but with all 3 it was det. city.

I got a MAFT to correct this, I could richen the mixture at WOT to offset the lean MAF condition but I think it was just cancelling each other out so I ditched the MAF ends. I kept the MAFT because I can use it to just set a slight lean condition for N/A runs and a slightly rich condition for N20 runs. Or I can just leave it at 0.

I have a ported maf sensor, and I see no detonation, but I was very lean before I fixed it with the predator programmer. I don't understand your theory that if you make the car run richer to compensate for the lean maf ends, it cancels it out. The ported maf ends still allow more air to get into the engine, and just because you made the mixture rich, jsut means there is more air and fuel now, which makes for more power.
