Port and Polich yourself???

How hard is it to port and polish your own MAF and TB?? ANd what about the Manifold. Is there any web sites that give step by step directions.

Thank you ahead a time.

maf is said to be a waste of time, and actually causes problems with tuning.

and the screen on it can keep junk out of your engine. i somehow sucked a small hose clamp into my engine, and since i have maf ends there was no screen to stop it. caused ALOT of damage.

as for the TB...minimal gains, but for something that is nearly free. some claim drivabiltiy problems after doing it. i ported mine on my dad's lathe in a machine shop, and have had no problems.

and how do you port an LS1/LS6 intake? they already flow pretty well

Zaino! Put a healthy coat on the inside and you'll get an extra 15rwhp!

Re: Port and Polich yourself???

I was actualy wanting polish more than port. I mainly wanted to polish the TB, MAF, and Manifold for looks only, I just wanted to see if it would be easy to port while I was at it.

So I will refraze the question.....
Does any one have any instructions on polishing the maf, tb and Intake (or paint the intake)..

I want to look like this http://www.cardomain.com/ride/314999/3.

Thank you.

1st off - This board needs spell check bad!

So I will refraze the question.....
"rephrase"

2nd, the owner of that car said what he did right on his webpage. He sanded and painted the intake and polished the tb and MAF. I'm assuming with the metal parts, he started with maybe 800 grit sand paper and worked his way up to 2000??? Then, probably used some sort of rubbing compound and finished it off with a polish. Search around on google or yahoo. I'm sure you'll find something on polishing up metal surfaces.

Actually you will want to start with something around 400ish....you need to remove quite a bit of casting imperfections....I'm in the process of doing the same thing right now.

"Flitz It!" 1500 grit paper or Emery Cloth, I'd immagine. Never-dull works wonders too!
