$ 5000 To Play With

Ok , I have a 2002 Camaro SS with only 2800 miles on her, with some slight mods , air box , chip , etc. What would you do if you had $ 5000 grand to put to mods ???? Im thinking full exhaust and maybe heads, cam . Or a full exhaust and a good rear end . I guess basically what im asking is WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK IN MY CAR ! I want it to be reliable also . No NOS .

Thanks for the suggestions , I cant wait to get some more ideas for my car .

Heads, cam, valvetrain, headers, cat-back, wideband O2 and tuning software. If you look around, you can stretch out that $5K pretty far. But, it will require you to do most of the work yourself. Enlist the help of a few friends and it can be fun...especially if one of your friends has a lift. That's how I'd do it.

Start calling speed shops in the sponsor section if you want specifics like price, parts, etc. Texas Speed would be a good one to start with.

Re: $ 5000 To Play With

I would start off with some basic bolt-ons and some suspension mods. Headers, y-pipe, catback, cutout would be a good start. As for the suspension, I would start with subframe connectors, relocation brackets and also lower control arms. We are running a special right now on the BMR suspension. There's a lot of headers to choose from right now and it depends on how much money you want to spend. We carry Jet-Hot, Hooker, Pacesetter, Kooks, QTP, MAC. Just about anything you want. Our most popular header by far is the Pacesetter which we are running a special on with our ORY($500+shipping) and catted Y($700+shipping).
Heads/cam combinations just depends on how aggressive you want to go. We have a setups for mild, street only combinations to track only setups. Feel free to give us a call or email us if you have any questions!

is this a M6 or A4? Think you need to get a 12 bolt, heads/cam, headers, clutch or stall.

Oh, and don't forget the Zaino. Although $5K won't buy you very much.

Re: $ 5000 To Play With

I'd get

12 bolt with 4.10's
sub frame connectors
rear control arms
torque arm
FTRA
Long tube headers
ORY or cated Y pipe
cat back
driveshaft safty loop
slicks
IF M6 upgrade clutch and shifter
if A4 change torque converter
I feel thats a good foundation were the drivetrain will be solid and It can handle anything you can throw at it in the future.
Or

just by one of those STS turbos.

I was saving for a 12 bolt myself (I have the other mods I mentioned except the turbo and slicks) but came accros a set of heads and cam at a price I could'nt pass up on here the other day. So I'm going with the heads/cam instead. Now I'll have to start saving again for a 12bolt so i can run slicks with out fearing blowing the rear on my daily driver.

how about this thought. Dont mod your 02 ss. It will lose so much of its value. Go over to ls1tech i saw a car for sale with a spun bearing for 4000. Go buy that and go from there. It would depreciate the value too much IMO. but thats just me. However if your going to mod. Go with a 12 bolt and forced induction.

Thats kind of my problem . I dont know which way to go . My car is mint , loaded . Its never seen rain or snow .It only has 2800 on it i just paid it off and I should be receiving the title soon Its a M6 by the way . On one hand I want to just keep it and never drive it like I do now . Do you really think it will be worth something someday ?? Then on the other hand why not make it really fast and enjoy it everyday . Well thats where im at . I do have a strut tower brace , and was thinking SFC would help alot . I either want it done perfect on not at all , is the way im thinking . Its too bad that shop is in TX , im from NJ . I can do alot of the things myself , but not all . One last thing . Where do I find a good rear at a good price , 3.73 or 4.11 ???

Thanks for the suggestions eveyone . Keep them comming

Buy another car. Yes that car will be worth something one day. There used to be an 00 WS6 rolling chassis with a 12 bolt in NJ for 4 grand. Just keep looking for another car to mod. A 98 would be cheapest.
