Poly motor mounts

how long should it take and what is the difficulty level of putting in new poly motor mounts on a Ls1?

Re: Poly motor mounts

mechanically it's simple

physically...it's a ROYAL PAIN IN THE ***!!!

the hard part is wiggling the mounts out from between the block and the K-member. and then wiggling it back in and lining the bolt up.

it took me 10hours by myself in my driveway. i had to jack the motor up as far as i could get it in order to pull it out. one side came out easier than the other.

it's WELL worth it if you plan to do headers or the orp

before the ypipe use to move at least 1/2-3/4" up and down as the engine twisted under load. after it barely moved 1/4"

now that i have a hefty cam, i think it helps keep the motor from jumping out of the engine bay

Re: Poly motor mounts

I agree with TEKE184, these mounts are a real pain in the *** to put in if you do not remove the exhaust manifolds or headers ,if you all ready have them.Once you get the old mounts off you have to grind/drillout the factory rivets on the motor mount clam shells to remove the factory rubber cores and then install the poly ones in thier place. You then bolt the two halfves back together and then bolt them back on the engine-block, once that is done you then have to line up the holes in the mounts with the holes in the motor mount towers and put the long bolts through both, which is a real TREAT especially if you do not have anyone to help you, HINT HINT!The good part is your motor will hardly flex at all with these mounts, which keeps the exhaust from hitting the floorboard and keeps your engine tight to the K-member and you shouln't have to ever worry about motor mounts ever again!
